assist educators in their legal, professional and ethical responsibilities
to protect all students and to maintain a safe caring and inclusive
learning environment. Addressing homophobia is an important part
of that obligation. This website provides Alberta teachers and students
with information, contacts and resources that can assist them in
creating safe, caring and inclusive learning environments for LGBT
students and staff.
The Calgary Gay Fathers are a peer support group for gay, bisexual, questioning, or partnered fathers. The group holds informal meetings twice a month, with individual members in contact in between. Membership is free and confidential.
PFLAG Lethbridge and Area is available 24 hours a day for information, crisis intervention, family mediation/counselling, individual counselling and support, and connections to other GLBT teens/parents, and resources. Contact person is parent: Betty Neil, MSW, RSW, who is also a community mental health therapist for ages 15-26.

Safe Spaces is a joint initiative
of the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) and the Society for Safe
and Caring Schools and Communities (SACSC). The Safe Spaces
Initiative comprises a poster, brochure and sticker designed to
identify your classroom and/or school as a safe and inclusive space
where LGBTQ students, teachers, friends, families and allies are
welcome and supported.
Facilitates access to sexual health education, information and
services for all Albertans. SHAA operates a Sexual Health Resource Centre and www.wontgetweird.com, a website
directory of youth-friendly, non-judgmental, confidential sexual health care services throughout Alberta.
