The Calgary Police Service is committed to providing the best policing service possible for diverse communities. The Diversity Resources Unit has 12 portfolios of diverse groups, one of which is Sexuality and Gender Diversity. Through our Sexuality and Gender Diversity Chief Advisory Board, the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgendered community liaise with the police to develop trust, understanding and address issues of concern for the police and these communities so that victims of same sex domestic violence, gay bashing and sexual assault are properly attended and crimes do not go unreported. There is a constable in the Domestic Conflict Unit who will take reports of same sex domestic violence, circumventing the conventional route of calling the police dispatch number to increase comfort in reporting.
